LASER HAIR REMOVAL

Ditch the razor and enjoy long-lasting smooth skin with laser hair removal.

How it works

Laser hair removal is a medical procedure that uses a concentrated beam of light (laser) to remove unwanted hair. During laser hair removal, a laser emits a light that is absorbed by the pigment (melanin) in the hair. The light energy is converted to heat, which damages the hair follicles that produce hairs. Once the follicles are destroyed, hair can’t grow back.

Does it hurt?

Laser hair removal is certainly less painful than waxing and electrolysis.  Some people describe the sensation as an elastic band snapping back.  Heat may be felt, but the laser hand piece has a cooling tip that is utilized to precool the area when needed.  Some areas are much more sensitive than others, such as upper lip versus lower leg.

How many treatments will you need?

We are all created differently and results vary due to skin type and hair type.  Hair follicles has a 3 stage process of growth, anagen (active phase), Catagen (regressive phase), and Telogen (resting phase).  Depending on which part of the body, the length of the growth cycle can last from 4 to 12 months.  For example, on the scalp, hair follicles spend up to 10 years in anagen, but on the trunk, brow or limbs, anagen lasts no longer than 4 months.  During the anagen phase the melanin containing cells are still connected to the root of the hair cell, thus the whole hair gets destroyed.  Typically 6 - 8 treatments are recommended in order to get most of the hair follicles in the anagen phase.   There will be a significant reduction or hair growth, and may need additionally treatments and then maintenance once or twice per year.

Is it expensive?

Initially most people assume laser hair removal is quite expensive and out of reach for most people.  For example 6 treatments for the lower leg total cost would be $1800 plus tax,
